Middle Wisconsin has recently received information from tipsters that The Tea Party and other Republican groups are still working hard in North-Central Wisconsin to further their agenda of austerity. As you know, they made waves in 2010 elections big and small, and have since taken a wrecking ball to departments, policies and services that help ensure that all citizens — especially the least among us — have equal footing, safety and security.
You protested in Madison, you protested here at home, you worked with us to register new voters and inform others of the new restrictive Voter ID law, you paraded with us and spread the good word, you’ve been collecting recall signatures…all in order to begin to turn the tide against this wave that hopes to destroy fair and strong government for all and keep it only for the few and moneyed…but now it’s time to step up and really make a difference right here at home. We’ve collected information about local political races right here in North-Central WI that the Tea Party and other right-wing groups are targeting — it’s up to you to help thwart this effort by running as a Progressive and getting involved at a decision-making level in the local institutions we all rely on. The Tea Party isn’t interested in preserving these institutions — they are actively working from within them to bring them down. We must make sure that we stand up for these institutions, and the citizens they serve, by giving local offices Progressive voices that will bring common sense to local decision-making, not wrecking-ball attitudes.
Please take a look below at the Wausau and Marathon County political offices up for grabs. Cross-reference to the maps we’ve linked, and see if there’s a spot for you. This is how we will begin to rebuild a system that is for all of us !
Here is the info we received about current districts :
*** UPDATE — we received better information after this post was initially put out there, so we’ve revised the info regarding the current seats.
The Wausau Council downsized from 12 to 11 districts, with incumbent Jonathan Havel not running again. His seat has been merged with that of Jim Brezinski, so it appears all seats will have an incumbent.
We encourage you to check into your Council member’s record and consider running if you don’t believe they are representing the “middle” of Wisconsin very well!
