Dear Supporters and Parade-Goers…   Leave a comment

Dear Supporters and Parade-Goers,

We believe we need to handle this parade a little differently than we would a protest. We have been asked by the labor council to attend and participate, and that is a great honor. The labor council took a stand and said the Repubs weren’t welcome, and that was good. The teabaggers put the pressure on, as they always do, but we don’t believe anybody caved, not even the mayor. Poor guy doesn’t want a riot on his hands, coming from either the right or the left. And the labor council pulled back on its position because they had concerned citizens groups worried about the partisanship and the fallout, ready to pull out of the parade. Money wasn’t the issue.

Fact is, this is an event that draws the entire public, and especially kiddies looking for the fire trucks and the candy. We don’t need a confrontational protest to mar the event. The Repubs stomped their feet and acted like babies, but we must be the adults in the room. We follow the labor council’s lead. We ignore the Repubs like they ignore us the other 364 days of the year. And we show up in big numbers, get behind the fire trucks, make some happy musical marching noise with drums and shakers and tambourines, and leave the chants of ‘shame’ and the protest signs behind this time. We’ll garner more support from regular folks by being class acts. And we’ll save that fire for next time, because these Republicans will be sure to give us many more opportunities….

Thank you for your support and for all you do. Now, make sure you click “I’m attending”, share this event, invite all your family and friends, and ask them to do the same ! Let’s make this a fun and positive celebration of labor, and a day to remember !!!

details:

Monday, Sep 5, 4 pm
Third Avenue starting at West Wausau Avenue, Wausau, WI, continuing south to Labor Temple

Have you heard? There’s going to be a Labor Day Parade in Wausau this weekend. We NEED to stand in solidarity with the Labor Council here, which has stood for all workers by thumbing their nose at the Republicans.

Did you march in Madison? It’s even more important to march this Labor Day. Show your support. Rock this parade. We are the people and we have the power. With all this publicity, it is more important than ever to show our solidarity (especially considering the next round of recalls, and the fact that Pat Kreitlow, Duffy’s opponent, will be marching in the parade with the Democratic Party). Make no mistake about it people, this is getting state-wide attention, and our turn out will matter here.

Middle Wisconsin will be walking behind our banner with some candy with contact information to hand out. If you have it, wear your t-shirt. If you march with another group in the parade, we’ll be happy to wave at you!
